Christmas Cake Decorations Course

6 lessons of 2 hrs each – Price €90 (does not include tools but includes certain basic materials and ingredients which will be used during recipes as we go along).

The tools needed for the course will be sold to you by a representative who will be present during the course.  You can start with the basic tools and then you add up more tools to your toolbox as you go along.  You need to buy good quality sugarpaste, marzipan and flower paste for Week 1.  These can also be bought from the same representative.

Dates: (you can choose to attend either the evening course or the day course)

Birzebbuga Area

Evening Course: 1st GROUP  – MONDAYS – October 2014 – 20, 27,  November 3, 10, 17, 24

Time:  6.30pm – 8.30pm

Evening Course:  2nd GROUP  – FRIDAYS – October 2014 – 24, 31, November 7, 14, 21, 28

Day Course:     WEDNESDAYS – October 2014 – 22, 29, November 5, 12, 19, 26

Time: 10:00am -12:00am

Mellieha Area

Afternoon Course:  SATURDAYS – October 2014 – 25, November 1, 8, 15, 22, 29

Time:  2.30pm – 4.30pm

Course Details:

For week 1, you would need to bring with you a madeira round cake size 6″ or instead of a real cake you can bring a dummy cake (made of jablo) and a cakeboard size 8″ which you can buy from the representative.  Please bring with you a rolling pin.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:  Please bring with you an apron and wear non slip comfortable shoes as kitchen might become slippery.  High heels are not accepted.

Week 1:

Cake Sizes and shapes, Christmas Cake Recipe – the do’s and don’ts of the Christmas cake recipe and whilst baking the Christmas cake.    An introduction to the different pastes which are used for cake covering and other pastes.  How to cover the Christmas Cake and the do’s and don’ts of how to handle both the marzipan and sugarpaste.

Week 2:

Getting familiar with the equipment and tools needed for this craft.  Introduction to the recipes of mexican paste and flower paste and how to do them at home.  A look at the various food colourings on the market.  Producing different types of frills and decorating our cake with frills.

Week 3:

An introduction to Royal Icing, its recipe, how to make your own piping bags.  Showing you how to make simple scrolls and Christmas motifs to decorate your cake.

Week 4:

How to do a beautiful poinsettia as a cake centre.  You’ll be astound how wonderful flowers are in cake decorating.

Week 5:

How to do the Christmas garland with ivy leaves and Christmas blossoms.

Week 6:

An introduction to patchwork and doing some simple Christmas patchwork.
